▶️ Open Pretest ▶️ Open Posttest

We’re turning graphs into sound. Each short “beep” walks from the left of the graph to the right.

Two ways we make sound:
Value → Pitch (V2P): Higher graph = higher note. Lower graph = lower note.
Slope → Pitch (S2P): Steeper = higher note. Flatter = lower note. (You’re “hearing” how fast the graph is changing.)

All clips use the same instrument, speed, and pitch range.

Class Flow

  1. Pretest — Students answer the pretest individually. No hints, no labels.
  2. Concept Launch — Explain V2P vs S2P with the short paragraph above.
  3. Guided Listening: V2P — Play each V2P card: ask “What do you predict?” then reveal and discuss.
  4. Quick Check — Ask a cold-call or hands-up question: “If the line is twice as steep, what happens to the pitch span?”
  5. Guided Listening: S2P — Emphasize rate of change. For each, ask: “Where is it changing fastest?”
  6. Pair Practice — Students choose one V2P and one S2P clip to explain to a partner (why it sounds that way).
  7. Posttest — Students answer the posttest individually.
  8. Reflect — Quick debrief: “What clue helped you the most?”

Formative Prompts You Can Use Anytime

Common Misconceptions to Address

Value → Pitch (V2P): Hear the height of the graph

Slope → Pitch (S2P): Hear how fast the graph is changing
